Denison council authorizes Bell Log Cabin transfer, agrees to match $4,000 county pledge

The Denison City Council on Jan. 21 authorized the transfer and relocation of the historic Bell Log Cabin and agreed to match a $4,000 pledge from the Crawford County Supervisors to support the project. The council voted unanimously to allow the mayor to sign the agreement to transfer and relocate the cabin and the accompanying bill of sale.
Christy Rickers reported that the County Supervisors pledged $4,000 toward the Bell Cabin project. On a motion by Councilmember Zupp-Smith, seconded by Councilmember Miller, the council voted to match the County contribution and to pay the city’s portion from the Tourism fund.
Council action follows a public hearing held at 5:05 p.m. on the proposed transfer; Mayor Pamela Soseman said there were no written or oral objections and closed the hearing. The motion to authorize signing the transfer agreement and bill of sale was made by Miller and seconded by Logan and carried unanimously.
The council previously discussed the project’s funding in tandem with the Chamber’s tourism activities; staff were instructed to coordinate next steps for relocation and to proceed with paperwork authorized by the council vote. No timeline for the physical move was specified at the meeting.
