Angie Olsen, grant coordinator, told the City Council the Fremont Creative District was accepted into the statewide Sculpture Walk program and that the city secured 10 sculptures for 2026 (the program initially offered four). She said the project is funded by development funds awarded to the district by the Nebraska Arts Council and that staff would sign contracts with individual artists for installation in May 2026.
Olsen noted there is a small chance an allotted sculpture could be swapped if an artwork sells before installation, and staff included images of candidate pieces with the report. Councilmembers expressed enthusiasm for the public-art program and for increasing the number of sculptures beyond the initial allocation.
Councilwoman Ganon moved to accept Resolution 2026-014 authorizing the mayor to sign the artist contracts for 2026–2027; the motion was seconded and approved 7–0.
Staff said installations are planned for spring 2026 and that the program will pay $1,000 per sculpture; final artist agreements will be completed before installation.
