Middlefield committee rejects leaking 30,000‑gallon tank, approves $2,779.58 generator‑housing change

Paul Pizzo, chairman of the Middlefield Public Safety and Firehouse Building Committee, presided over the June 17, 2026 meeting that included a closed session on project finances and a series of decisions on equipment, materials and job‑site safety.

After an executive session that began at 7:08 p.m. and ended at 8:43 p.m. with guests present and no votes taken, the committee took several public actions on the town’s public safety and firehouse project. The body voted to reject a 30,000‑gallon water tank that “continues to leak,” saying it had been improperly handled and stored upon delivery; the committee said a formal rejection letter listing the reasons will be sent. Bruce Villwock moved the rejection; Ryan Colwell seconded and the motion carried.

The committee also approved change order CE#0041, dated June 9, 2026, to change the generator housing material to aluminum for an additional $2,779.58. That motion was made by Bruce Villwock, seconded by Ryan Colwell, and carried.

On materials review, the architect told the committee that the presented brick sample would not be approved at this point. The members reviewed glass samples and selected one; they agreed to add "Review finishes" to the next agenda for further decisions on exterior and interior materials.

Committee members raised concerns about work‑site safety and quality control, requesting that PDS be required to clean and walk the job daily because the site is a public building. The committee agreed to draft a letter to the PDS management team outlining the safety and quality issues.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn at 9:04 p.m.; Steven Tyc moved, Bruce Villwock seconded, and the motion carried.
