Sharon Board of Selectmen approve revised sign ordinance for events on the Green; to go before Town Meeting

The Sharon Board of Selectmen on April 28 voted to approve revisions to a proposed sign ordinance affecting use of the town Green and authorized the revised draft for presentation to Town Meeting.
First Selectman Flanagan said the Sharon Green Committee, the Historic District Commission and the Town Attorney reviewed the draft and raised no objections. The Board proposed two changes to Section 2: replacing a provision that allowed one temporary sign for a properly permitted event with a new limit of up to four temporary signs for an event approved by the Board of Selectmen. Thomas Casey, representing the Sharon Green Committee, asked that any request to use the Green be reviewed by the Green Committee before Board approval; the Board agreed this would be the procedure going forward and that the Green Committee would assume responsibility for enforcement.
Selectman Lynn Kearcher moved to approve the ordinance as revised for presentation to Town Meeting; Selectman Brett seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The Board did not record a roll-call vote in the meeting minutes. The ordinance will appear on the next Town Meeting agenda for final action.
