Selectmen appoint Middlebury representative to regional transit board; town readies Flag Day and website switch

The Middlebury Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the appointment of JoAnn Cappelletti to serve on the Greater Waterbury Transit District at its June 1 meeting.
First Selectwoman Jennifer Mahr moved for the appointment; Selectman J. Paul Vance seconded and the motion passed without dissent. Cappelletti’s term was recorded as Feb. 6, 2026 through Feb. 6, 2028.
Mahr also briefed the board on several community items: the town’s new website is scheduled to go live around June 12, though she cautioned that content transfer will require manual follow-up; a Flag Day parade will start at 1 p.m. on June 14 at the Fire Department on Tucker Hill and conclude at Shepardson Community Center where an ice cream social will run 2–4 p.m.; and Middlebury250 organizers have a Hall of Honor display at Shepardson and a t-shirt contest winner from Memorial Middle School with shirts for sale on the town site.
Mahr said Parks & Recreation will hold a meeting to develop a resident survey and schedule a public hearing on regulation of e-bikes on the Greenway, and that volunteers are being sought for a Charter Revision Commission (citizens Christopher McCarthy, Terrence McAuliffe and Jordano Santos have indicated interest).
