Mason Consolidated Schools board adopts 2026 technology millage, votes to opt out of 31aa funds

At its Nov. 13 meeting the Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education adopted a 2026 Technology Enhancement Millage resolution and, after a closed session, voted 5-0 to adopt a resolution to deny (opt out of) 31aa funds; the board also approved other resolutions and personnel actions.
The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education voted Nov. 13, 2025, in Mason Senior High School Library to adopt a 2026 Technology Enhancement Millage Resolution and later approved a resolution to opt out (deny) 31aa funds, with both measures passing on 5-0 roll calls.
The millage resolution was moved by Board Member Grodi and supported by Board Member Nehrig; the roll call showed Waller, Otting (Board President), England, Grodi and Nehrig voting yes, with Fowler and Smith absent. Later the board approved a resolution described in the minutes as an opt-out (deny) of 31aa funds on a motion by England supported by Nehrig, again carrying 5-0.
The board also adopted a PowerSchool Litigation Resolution (motion by Waller, supported by Grodi) and a Great Lakes Football League Resolution (motion by Grodi, supported by Waller); both passed on the same roll call pattern. The board approved hiring Kelly Burnside as a bus aide at $14.85 per hour (motion by England, supported by Waller) and approved CTE teacher Todd Hodge to attend the Michigan Career Education Conference Jan. 25–27 in Grand Rapids (motion by Waller, supported by Grodi). All personnel and travel approvals carried 5-0 as recorded.
The meeting included recognitions: Shawna Lucarelli, a high school mathematics teacher, and Todd Hodge, a CTE construction trades teacher, were named Staff Members of the Month (sponsored by Leski Wittman Insurance Agency). Senior Zhuoran Cai was recognized as a Commended Student in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program and received a $1,000 BCSN Spotlight Scholar award. Student council officers led the Pledge of Allegiance and student council representatives Molly Sepulveda and Madeline Kolbe presented monthly activity updates.
The board recessed into closed session under Section 8(h) "to consider material exempt from discussion or disclosure by state or federal statute;" the motion to enter closed session was made by England and supported by Waller, with the board recording time in at 6:40 p.m. and time out at 7:14 p.m. Immediately after returning to open session, the board adopted the 31aa opt-out resolution. The board adjourned at 7:16 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Dec. 3, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School Library.
