Mansfield Board reviews updated body-art apprenticeship guidance

The Mansfield Board of Health on April 2 discussed updates to body-art apprenticeship regulations and directed staff to circulate a fresh draft for future consideration.
Amy Donovan-Palmer told the board she and colleagues are revising the apprenticeship guidance chart, which the department previously adapted from Cambridge Health Department materials. Donovan-Palmer said the goal is to include discipline-specific expectations for tattooing and body piercing, using suggested curriculum frameworks from the Association of Professional Piercers and examples from the state of Virginia.
Board members reviewed the references and supported the approach of using established model documents to shape local apprenticeship requirements. Donovan-Palmer said she would begin distributing a version of the regulations that “no longer includes changes,” meaning a clean copy ready for redline review and discussion at a subsequent meeting.
The board did not vote on regulation changes at the April 2 meeting; members discussed resources to inform a proposed set of apprenticeship standards and next steps for drafting language that addresses training hours, supervision and discipline-specific practice expectations.
Next steps: staff will circulate the clean draft of revised body-art apprenticeship regulations and the board will schedule review and comment at a future meeting.
