Port Barre council approves minutes, enrolls employees in MERS, and authorizes bids to sell vehicles and demolish condemned homes

Mayor John P. Ardoin convened the Town of Port Barre meeting on Oct. 1, 2024. The council unanimously approved the minutes from the Sept. 3 regular meeting and the Sept. 30 special meeting after a motion by Alderman Ronnie Kimble seconded by Alderman Sammy W. Hardy II.
Alderman Susie Hebert moved, seconded by Alderman Sammy W. Hardy II, to grant Mayor Ardoin permission to enroll all town employees in the Municipal Employees Retirement System (MERS); the council approved the measure unanimously. The council then authorized the mayor to advertise for bids to sell the following surplus vehicles (motion by Alderman Sammy W. Hardy II, seconded by Alderman Ronnie Kimble): 2005 Ford Crown Victoria VIN VIIJ102681; 2005 Ford Crown Vic VIN 145424; 2008 Ford Crown Vic VIN LI'1106183; 2014 Chevrolet Impala VIN 108285; 2014 Dodge Charger VIN L221A2.
The council approved a motion by Alderman Susie Hebert, seconded by Alderman Sammy W. Hardy II, to authorize Mayor Ardoin to advertise for bids to demolish three condemned properties located at 223 Beauxis Drive, 129 Josie Street and 133 Josie Street. Each of the actions recorded in the minutes carried unanimously.
Alderman Susie Hebert later moved, seconded by Alderman Donald Robin, to accept all financial and departmental reports; that motion also passed unanimously. The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn by Alderman Hebert, seconded by Alderman Robin.
Next steps: the mayor has authority to place the listed vehicles and demolition projects out for bid; the ordinances introduced at the meeting will return for later consideration according to the town’s ordinance process.
