The Historic Commission approved a new business sign for Lucky Manu at 22107 Highway 36 Unit C during its Sept. 16 meeting.
Staff told the commission the applicant was not present but that the sign was in the same location as the previous sign above the roof. Staff described the business as a private catering sushi company and said the proposed new sign met the commission's square-footage guidelines at about 21.5 square feet. "It's already made as we can see," a staff member (Ron) said; he added, "I advised against that, but it's okay."
Commissioners discussed materials (staff described the sign as wood with vinyl letters though one speaker said it looked metal) and placement. A motion to approve the sign as submitted was made, seconded and passed on a voice vote; commissioners answered "I." No public opposition was recorded during the item.
Staff noted the sign appeared to be installed prior to the meeting despite earlier advice; the commission's approval allows the sign to remain as submitted, subject to any building or zoning permits that may be required.
