The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to allocate $6,000 from county gaming funds to help cover program expenses for the county's Adult Drug Court.
Supervisor Dan Binger asked the board to fund snacks and meals for participants and volunteers after prior grant support and other funding sources were lost. "Judge Bob," who addressed the board on behalf of the court, said the program relies on unpaid citizen volunteers and staff and described both adult and juvenile panels that meet in the evenings. "We have 21 volunteers on both the adult and juvenile drug court," the judge said, and he called the program "a program that's saved lives. It saved families."
Board members asked whether opioid-specific funds could be used; staff said gaming funds were an appropriate short-term source and noted there is currently unallocated money in the county gaming account. Supervisor Nelson moved approval, Supervisor Bittinger seconded, and the motion passed on a 5-0 voice vote.
