Woodbury County temporarily keeps 55 mph on some secondary roads while signs, lanes are reviewed

The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to adopt a temporary resolution maintaining a 55-mile-per-hour limit on certain secondary roads while officials complete a review of paved sections and signage.
Kyle Gates, assistant to the county engineer, told the board the county will "try and check all of our roads before we post them to B60" and plans to replace signs rather than apply sticker overlays. "Our employees' time is valuable and it's a better use of our dollars to just replace the signs," Gates said.
The board discussed the need to examine lane lines, rumble strips and no-passing zones before any permanent speed changes are posted. Supervisor Dietrich moved approval of the resolution; Supervisor Nelson seconded. The motion passed on a 5-0 voice vote.
County staff said the temporary measure is intended to differentiate county speed limits from state road speeds and to allow time to identify and address any safety or signage concerns. The board did not set a date for the final review; staff said they will complete field checks and return with recommendations.
