The Adair County Board of Supervisors on June 24 approved signing the contract and performance bond for the W36 Lincoln Bridge Project after a motion by Supervisor Christoffersen and a second by Supervisor Baier.
County Engineer Nick Kauffman updated the board on secondary road operations and maintenance. He reported the W36 Prussia project is complete and awaiting a final walkthrough for cost‑share reimbursement. Work continues on Bridge 47 near Harrison, where county crews are addressing erosion and ditch repairs; preliminary design work has started on a Eureka box culvert project. Kauffman said crews repaired washouts and hauled roughly 260 tons of rock to support a Highway 92 detour. He also reported that MidAmerican Energy has poured wind turbine bases but remains behind schedule, and that one piece of equipment will need a new engine.
Kauffman told the board the department had two employee resignations and does not plan to fill those positions until budget reviews are complete; the department is weighing the use of seasonal help in winter months. He also mentioned a fuel leak discovered on a new truck and said county G61 will be closed for an upcoming bridge replacement project with ditch work planned this fall to prepare for the detour.
The board approved the contract and bond, and no further action was taken on staffing or equipment replacements beyond the updates provided at the meeting.
