Supervisors proclaim support for TGI residents and approve Charles R. Drew campus expansion

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a proclamation and resolution reaffirming county support for transgender, gender expansive and intersex (TGI) residents and adopted a motion to recognize the third anniversary of the Los Angeles County LGBTQ+ Commission.
Supervisor Solis framed the item around protecting access to gender-affirming care and county services, citing community needs and national legal developments. "Los Angeles County will not use its resources to detain, surveil or penalize anyone for seeking or providing gender-affirming care," the chair said as she called for the board's support. Supervisors across the dais praised commission leadership and community advocates; multiple callers and commission representatives spoke in favor during public comment. The executive officer called the roll and the motion passed.
Separately, after a public hearing and a stream of supportive public testimony from community members, students and institutional representatives, the board approved an entitlement for Charles R. Drew University to build a Wellness and Education Campus in Willowbrook. University and Compton Unified School District representatives told the board the project will add educational opportunities, workforce pipelines and 254 affordable housing units for families and seniors as part of an integrated plan linked to the MLK medical campus.
Supervisor Mitchell recused herself from the vote on that item pursuant to government code disclosure noted on the record. The board approved the project by roll call.
