Purchasing staff said the parcel was re-auctioned after an earlier sale attempt with an $80,000 notice minimum drew no acceptable bids. "We re-auctioned it. We had six bidders ... but we got it up to 85,000 and the highest bidder gave us a $10,000 bank check," a purchasing staff member stated, noting the buyer will have 30 days to complete the transaction if the board approved the sale.
The sale was previously authorized by the Representative Town Meeting (RTM). Town staff said advertising costs will be deducted from the $85,000, and the remaining funds will be split proportionally between past-due taxes and outstanding utility charges based on the amounts owed. Officials described the split as proportional rather than an even division, and said the tax collector will provide exact past-tax figures.
The board approved the motion by voice vote.
The transaction will move forward to closing and any required follow-up with the finance office; the buyer must deliver the remaining balance within the 30-day closing period identified by purchasing staff.
