Human Resources Committee approves mayoral appointments to advisory boards

The City of Chicopee Human Resources Committee met Nov. 20 and approved three mayoral appointments to local advisory boards and the committee’s September minutes before adjourning at 6:17 p.m.
Taisheema “Tasha” Schley was nominated to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a term effective Aug. 5, 2025, to April 1, 2028. Schley, who was present, said she works in the insurance industry and recently moved to Chicopee and would like to serve the city. Councilor Mary Beth Pniak-Costello moved to approve the appointment; Councilor Gary Labrie seconded. A roll call recorded votes in favor from Labrie, Susan Goff and Pniak-Costello; Councilors Jerry Roy and Abigail Arriaga were recorded absent. The motion passed.
John Moran was nominated to the Veteran Advisory Board with a term expiring Oct. 1, 2028. Moran, present, identified himself as a lifelong Chicopee resident, a retired teacher and a retired National Guard reservist. Councilor Susan Goff moved to approve the nomination and Councilor Gary Labrie seconded; the motion passed by the same 3–0 roll call with two absences.
A second nominee for the Veteran Advisory Board, Tracy Dupont, was not present. The committee voted to place Dupont’s nomination on file; the motion to place the appointment on file was made by Councilor Mary Beth Pniak-Costello and seconded by Councilor Gary Labrie and passed by roll call.
Theresa Picard, nominated to the Veteran Advisory Board through Oct. 1, 2028, was present and told the committee she is a retired nurse from a military family and has been involved in veterans’ activities, including service on boards connected to a new veterans soldiers’ home in Holyoke. Councilor Pniak-Costello moved to approve Picard’s appointment; Councilor Labrie seconded and the committee approved by roll call, three in favor with two absences.
The committee also voted to approve the minutes of Sept. 24, 2025, on a motion by Councilor Pniak-Costello, seconded by Councilor Labrie. The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Councilor Susan Goff, seconded by Councilor Labrie; the roll call for adjournment showed three yes votes and two absences.
All roll-call tallies recorded the same membership pattern for votes: Councillors Gary Labrie, Susan Goff and Mary Beth Pniak-Costello voting yes; Councillors Jerry Roy and Abigail Arriaga absent.
