Cohasset historic commission approves Marvin windows for Town Hall and Annex, will review vinyl option

The Cohasset Common Historic District Commission (CCHDC) voted 6-0 on March 3, 2026, via Zoom, to approve the Marvin Ultimate Series windows for both the original Town Hall and the Annex, while reserving judgment on a separate proposal for vinyl windows for the Annex that is on display at Hingham Lumber.
The Town Hall Working Group (THWG) presented a design package proposing to match the existing mullion profile and overall appearance of the original Town Hall windows, restore existing Palladian windows, remove air-conditioner holes, and repair siding. For the original Town Hall the group proposed Marvin Ultimate Series windows, described in the minutes as aluminum-clad but similar in appearance to the historic windows. For the Annex THWG proposed “spiffing up” the exterior to be more consistent with the original building using double-hung replica windows, and separately suggested Matthews Brothers Sandford Hills vinyl windows as an option for the Annex.
After discussion the commission approved a motion to adopt the Marvin Ultimate Series for the entire project (original Town Hall and Annex). The motion included direction that members of the CCHDC would determine the appropriateness of the Matthews Brothers vinyl windows for the Annex; the minutes note the vinyl samples are available for review at Hingham Lumber. The minutes record the motion was approved 6-0.
The minutes for the prior meeting were approved earlier in the session (recorded as a 4-0 approval with one abstention and one late attendee). The meeting adjourned at 6:45 PM; the minutes were submitted by John Coffey, Chairman.
The decision commits the commission to a window product that the minutes describe as visually compatible with the historic fabric; commission members will retain a review role on the Matthews Brothers vinyl option for the Annex before any installation of that product proceeds.
