Selectboard authorizes PVPC to submit joint CDBG application with Huntington

Erica Johnson of the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission told the Selectboard that changes to income-eligibility rules mean Chester and Huntington will be the only communities in this year’s joint Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application. She outlined proposed projects including engineering design for the Maple Avenue water main, housing rehabilitation, social services and educational programs, and noted increased demand at the Huntington Food Pantry.
Michelle Kenney of the Hilltown Adult Education Center described services such as GED preparation and technology help for seniors; a representative of the Domestic Violence Task Force summarized services available to residents. Erica said remaining funds from Prospect Street Phase II would be applied to Phase III and that PVPC will review the housing rehabilitation waitlist and outreach in Chester.
After discussion, Selectboard members voted to authorize PVPC to submit the FY26 CDBG application with Huntington. Brian Forgue moved the motion, which passed following a second from Craig Gauthier.
