Crosby-Ironton trustees spent a significant portion of the meeting reviewing proposed updates to the district’s strategic plan and a newly completed balance scorecard that rates progress on communication, enrollment and graduate-profile goals.
Directors provided a menu of suggested objectives under student achievement — from one-year growth benchmarks in reading and math to interventions, tutoring and MTSS fidelity. Board members focused discussion on three recurring themes: improving student engagement and motivation, strengthening behavioral and emotional supports (including rebooting the pyramid model), and defining a clear ‘Ranger graduate’ profile that could be used in messaging and recruitment.
Trustees debated the evidence for communication goals and whether participation in community events should be tracked formally. One trustee urged a marketing-driven approach, arguing that better public communications about the district’s facilities, programs and student successes could support enrollment growth in neighboring areas.
Superintendent Mr. Ali noted the scorecard was the result of a review that began last fall and recommended the board revisit priorities on a bimonthly basis as the refreshed plan is developed. The board agreed to compile the goals and objectives discussed tonight and use the May work session to prioritize one or two focus areas for initial work.
Why it matters: Trustees said clearer goals, better evidence for progress and a coherent graduate profile will help align curriculum, community outreach and recruitment efforts. Several members proposed turning select objectives into measurable tasks for the coming year to avoid the ‘set-and-forget’ problem the district experienced with past plans.
The board did not approve a final strategic plan but directed staff to synthesize the discussion and prepare materials for a May work session.
