Council approves process to pursue 'Broadband Ready Community' designation and public meeting

Borough Manager Cindy Wells asked the council to adopt the process required to apply for the Broadband Ready Communities designation administered by the Erie Area Council of Governments (EACOG). The designation requires a public meeting and a resolution authorizing a municipal broadband champion.
Wells said the designation could create additional options for residents by inviting other internet service providers to the borough and that current permitting requirements align with the program’s recommendations. Councilor Kerns moved and Councilor Joyce seconded to proceed with the public meeting and prepare the resolution authorizing EACOG to serve as the municipal champion; the motion carried unanimously.
Manager Wells said staff will schedule the required public meeting and begin preparing the resolution and application materials.
