Regional planner unveils Safe Routes to School toolkit; volunteers sought for August bike rodeo

Judith Perez Kennstone, principal planner with the Regional Transportation Council, briefed the committee on a Safe Routes to School toolkit designed to help school districts and local staff implement programs where capacity is limited. She said the toolkit is intended to facilitate conversations with smaller districts and education service districts (ESD 112) and encouraged committee members to review the web materials and share feedback with staff.
"We have a Safe Routes to School program. It's a toolkit ... we did not create all the information you see here; we borrowed content to facilitate local implementation," Perez Kennstone said, inviting BPAC members to contact her or county staff for the link and to provide input.
Separately, a City of Vancouver planner said the city will host a Safe Routes bike rodeo at the Heights Bike Garden on Aug. 15 and asked for volunteer help for morning, afternoon or full‑day shifts; Harrison will circulate the volunteer sign‑up link. The county public health built environment coordinator, Amy Kosski, said she had no new updates but appreciated being present and will bring future public‑health updates to BPAC when available.
Staff asked members to review the online toolkit and told the committee they will share the link via email; members who want to volunteer at the Aug. 15 event were directed to contact staff.
