The Town of Danvers Accessibility Commission confirmed plans for a Human Library event on Oct. 17, 2026, at the Senior Center with a 10:00 a.m. start. Commissioners said the town calendar currently shows no conflicts for Oct. 17 or 18 and the event will be added to the calendar once a final start and end time are set.
The commission reported it has $500 from a Friends of Diversity grant. The Human Library licensing fee is $250, leaving approximately $250 for refreshments and other event costs. JD said he will register with the Human Library organization, pay the fee, complete required training and collect event materials to distribute to commission members. The commission discussed whether to seek additional town funding and JD said he will follow up to clarify whether reimbursement or direct payment is required.
Confirmed participants ('books') include JD, Karen and Christa (from the recovery center). The commission invited a parent of a trans teen to participate as an ally, citing concerns about asking members of marginalized communities to out themselves. A veteran from the veteran center expressed interest but misunderstood the format; Fawn and JD will meet with him to explain the Human Library concept. JD also said he will contact the Beverly School for the Deaf/Children's Communication Center about possible participation, citing a prior collaboration on a Living Room Conversations project.
Next steps: JD will register and secure event materials and training, Matt will forward materials to commission members, and event cadence and end time will be determined at a future meeting.
