Police Chief Bice asked the council to recognize Detective Wilton and criminal analyst Daniel Gaines for a theft investigation that concluded quickly with recovered property and an arrest.
Chief Bice described the case: a young woman reported a stolen wallet that led to unauthorized charges. "By the end of the day Detective Wilton had...identified the suspect...tracked the suspect down, had the suspect arrested, and obtained a full confession within 24 hours," she said, and credited the investigative unit for returning a driver’s license, social security card and other items to the victim.
Why it matters: the chief framed the investigation as an example of local police responsiveness and community service; the department argued that solving smaller cases builds trust and saves victims time and expense.
Outcome: the council joined in presenting letters of commendation; no formal policy action was necessary.
