A commissioner said the program would run three days per week initially with bagged lunches distributed at several housing sites, and proposed using discretionary funds to seed the effort. The commission voted to approve the assembled discretionary contributions—reported at $5,200 in total—to start the program and accepted private donations routed through city channels. City staff advised donors to direct funds to the city manager’s office for accounting and distribution through established programs.
Separately, commissioners discussed support for sending the Chris County Recreation Department girls 8–10 softball team to a state championship tournament in Dalton, Georgia. Commissioners said the county will match city funds and that private fundraising is underway; the body authorized up to $1,000 per commissioner as needed and confirmed that donated money will be processed through the city’s adopt-an-athlete fund for registration and scholarships.
