Bolton Fire Commission reviews calls, inspections and building-safety items; mutual aid agreement pending Selectmen approval

At the Nov. 25 Bolton Fire Commission meeting, Fire Marshal Bill Call and commission members reviewed recent operational activity and inspections and noted several infrastructure and intergovernmental items requiring follow-up.
Bill Call listed recent activities including a fire-prevention demonstration at Bolton Center School and the department’s response to wires on fire at 74 South Road. He reported inspections since the last meeting at Carlyle Johnson Machine, Bolton RV, Dollar General and 10 Quarry Road, and said a Mutual Aid Agreement is complete and now awaits Selectmen approval.
Commission discussion covered building safety at 890 Boston Turnpike. The commission recorded that a new fire escape must be built to exact specifications and that the old escape will be removed once the replacement is complete.
Chairman John Morianos and member Robert Langton raised procedural and planning questions: Langton asked whether the Selectmen have set a timeline for a study on daytime paid positions for the volunteer department; Chief Dixon said it is a work in progress. Morianos asked about updates on the intersections of I‑384, Route 6 and Route 44; Chief Dixon said First Selectman Fournier would follow up with the state Department of Transportation.
Chief Dixon also informed the commission that former Deputy Fire Marshal Lauri Volkert, who served as Fire Marshal in Windsor and had been Bolton's deputy several years ago, has been promoted to State Fire Marshal.
The commission set its next meeting for Dec. 9, 2024, and adjourned at 8:07 P.M.
