Bolton fire chief reports 48 calls; grant sought for sonar camera and members suspended pending physicals

Chief Dixon told commissioners the Bolton Volunteer Fire Department responded to 48 calls during the previous month, including a large brush fire in Vernon, three motor-vehicle accidents and two incidents in which CPR saved lives. He said the department also handled numerous other emergency medical service calls.
Dixon said he is preparing the 2025–2026 budget for a December presentation and will submit the department’s Capital Improvement Plans to the Selectmen’s office on time. He noted the Bolton EMS Plan and the town’s annual report are due in December.
On training, Dixon reported members completed intensive extrication and EMS training using the department’s three training vehicles. Several members attended external classes on flashover training and EMS legal topics, and one officer will take a Fire Instructor class in November.
Dixon said he submitted a grant application to the Bolton Greater Together Community Fund to purchase an underwater sonar camera intended for water-rescue operations; the grant committee’s announcement is expected at the end of December.
He also reported that several members have been suspended from responding to emergency calls until they complete required annual physicals, in keeping with OSHA rules.
