Main Street representatives updated the council on leadership changes, downtown promotion and fundraising.
Dennis Forgo, president of Main Street, introduced outgoing volunteer recognition and asked the mayor and clerk to participate in a photo presentation. Candaceful said she is the new executive director after volunteering since Main Street's inception and outlined early efforts to pursue state grants for downtown growth. Andy Collie, events director, previewed returning events including First Fridays and a career wrestling event intended to draw visitors.
Separately, a longtime volunteer introduced herself as Kate Kefir and said Calera's fundraising for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama has generated about $597,000 over 15 years; she proposed a check presentation at the end of the session. Council thanked Main Street volunteers and staff and said the city will support downtown promotion and signage efforts.
