Superintendent Dr. Lynett Hookfin updated the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board on COVID‑19 case counts and district operations at the board’s Jan. 14 meeting.
Dr. Hookfin reported that 61 district employees and 28 students had tested positive to date and said the parish’s positivity rate was 13.9%; she cited the parish dashboard totals of 2,963 cases and 114 deaths. She described recent meal distribution: 524 meal boxes (five breakfasts and five lunches per box) were delivered the previous day, and the district will make the same deliveries Jan. 20 and Jan. 27. She said registration for the meal program will reopen as the district shifts to 100% virtual instruction for four weeks and encouraged parents to sign up for the free service.
Dr. Hill briefed the board on assessment scheduling, saying LEAP 2025 testing began Jan. 7 and will continue through Jan. 28; board members asked questions about testing dates that Dr. Hill answered.
The superintendent framed the updates as operational necessities for student nutrition and assessment continuity while instruction is remote; the board did not take formal action on the COVID report during the meeting.
