Nia Mitchell elected president of St. John the Baptist Parish School Board; Shawn Wallace named vice president

At its Jan. 14 meeting in Edgard, the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board elected Ms. Nia Mitchell president and Mr. Shawn Wallace vice president; both were chosen without opposition in a 10–0 vote with one member absent.
The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board reorganized its leadership at the start of its Jan. 14 meeting, electing Ms. Nia Mitchell president and Mr. Shawn Wallace vice president.
Mr. Jones nominated Mitchell for president; with no other nominations the board closed nominations and, by roll call, declared Ms. Nia Mitchell president with 10 Yeas and 1 Absent (Mr. Johnson). Mitchell then took the chair and Mr. Jones nominated Shawn Wallace for vice president. The board declared Mr. Shawn Wallace vice president by the same 10–0 roll-call margin with one member absent.
The elections concluded the board’s opening procedural business and preceded routine reports and the superintendent’s update. No formal contest or alternate slates were recorded during the nominations.
The board’s next scheduled workshop is Jan. 28 at 4:30 p.m. in the board room.
