New Marlborough library to draft general privacy policy after ICE-policy review

Deb O'Brien, the New Marlborough town librarian, told trustees at their April 16 meeting that she followed up with town counsel about an ICE-specific policy she submitted on Feb. 18 and was advised to pursue a broader library privacy policy instead.
O'Brien said the proposed policy would cover who may contact the library, who should be notified, and the procedural steps staff should follow, rather than focusing solely on immigration enforcement contacts. She reported she consulted with the Great Barrington librarian and will draft language for the trustees to consider when it is ready.
Trustees did not take a formal vote on a policy at the April meeting; they will review the draft once O'Brien completes it. The board approved minutes from the Feb. 19, 2026 meeting and adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
