Ansonia Board approves healthy food certification, Pine Trust use and sets graduation date

The Ansonia Board of Education on May 20 approved several routine but consequential items that affect school operations for the coming year.
The board voted to adopt the Healthy Food Certification required under Connecticut law, approving both the primary certification under C.G.S. Section 10‑215f and a narrowly drawn exemption that permits sale of non‑standard items after the regular school day or at event locations. Food Service Director Kevin Benham had explained the certification’s purpose and the two-step vote; the board approved both measures by the four members present.
Superintendent DiBacco briefed the board on the Pine Trust fund, which supplies grant money annually for programs such as Pathways, Project Lead The Way and engineering classes. The board voted to accept the request to use Pine Trust funds for those programs.
The board also approved the Ansonia High School graduation date of June 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
All formal motions were approved by the members present: Dr. Steven Adamowski, Mr. Rich Bshara, Mr. Chris Phipps and Ms. Sharon Voroschak. Several board members were absent from the meeting; votes reflect those attending.
