Monroe Township highlights new pickleball courts and park work; residents press for roller rink repairs and traffic enforcement

He updated the council on James Monroe Park (electrical transformer installed, septic complete) and announced upcoming full reconstruction of two railroad crossings: Hoffman Station Road will be closed around the clock for reconstruction July 20–24 and Schoolhouse Road will have an overnight closure starting July 28.
Monroe Township Hockey (represented by Greg Mammali) requested that the township preserve and restore the community center roller rink as a safe, multi‑use facility. Mammali said the organization met with staff and left the meeting encouraged; he asked for short‑term safety repairs and continued partnership on longer‑term restoration. Township staff replied that the parking‑lot redesign around the rink is under design and that immediate safety work on the rink is being pursued separately.
Several residents raised safety and service questions: John Keski described a protracted dispute over sidewalk and apron replacements on his cul‑de‑sac and asked for a follow‑up meeting with the mayor to resolve outstanding work. Frank Tanik described frequent red‑light running, speeding and distracted driving on township roads and suggested enforcement measures including targeted enforcement days and use of red‑light cameras or citizen dashcam submissions.
Officials said some projects (water tower, some concrete work) are complete and that parking‑lot and rink design work will be scheduled later this year, weather permitting. The engineer said he expected milling and paving for the 2026 road program to begin in about two weeks and confirmed notifications and detours will be posted for the railroad closures.
