Port Barre council adopts two compensation ordinances, seeks state water funding and reappoints two to fire board

At its Nov. 5 meeting, the Town of Port Barre unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 3 (superintendent compensation) and Ordinance No. 4 (town clerk compensation), authorized Mayor John P. Ardoin to apply for CWEE/LGAP funds for fiscal 2024–2025, and reappointed two members to the St. Landry Parish Fire District No. 2 board.
The Town of Port Barre Mayor and Board of Aldermen unanimously adopted two ordinances adjusting pay for town personnel and authorized a state grant application at a regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 5, 2024.
A public hearing on Ordinance No. 3 of 2024 (compensation of the superintendent) and Ordinance No. 4 of 2024 (compensation of the town clerk) was held from 5:50 to 6:00 p.m.; the transcript notes little discussion during the hearing. On formal motions the council adopted both ordinances: Ordinance No. 3 was adopted on a motion by Ronnie Kimble, seconded by Sammy W. Hardy II; Ordinance No. 4 was adopted on a motion by Donald Robin, seconded by Gregory P. Hardy. Both votes were recorded as unanimous.
The council also approved a resolution authorizing Mayor John P. Ardoin to submit an application to the State of Louisiana seeking fiscal-year 2024–2025 funding through the Community Water Enrichment Fund (CWEE) and the Local Government Assistance Program (LGAP). The resolution was moved by Sammy W. Hardy II and seconded by Donald Robin and passed unanimously.
Later in the meeting, on a motion by Ronnie Kimble seconded by Susie Hebert, the council reappointed Mr. Sammy Hardy and Mr. Leroy Andrus to the board of St. Landry Parish Fire District No. 2 upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Roy Hardy; that motion was also unanimous.
Officials recorded acceptance of routine financial and departmental reports and then adjourned. The meeting included brief departmental updates and a public comment in which Chris Myers, owner of the former Methodist Church property, introduced himself and outlined renovation plans.
