The Mansfield Human Rights Commission on May 4 approved edits to a Pride Month proclamation that will be read at a flag-raising ceremony on June 1, 2026, and voted to assist a community Pride event set for Friday, June 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Betsy Patterson Square.
The measure approving the proclamation edits passed unanimously after discussion. Commissioner Elizabeth Vitullo moved to approve the edits and Commissioner Jane Fried seconded; members voted "all in favor." The proclamation and an agenda item summary will be forwarded to the Town Council for the flag-raising ceremony.
Sarah Deluca, Youth Services Supervisor, described community groups, performers and activities that the HRC could expect at the June 5 event and solicited input from commissioners, saying the staff "was looking for some feedback on ideas." Commissioners suggested additional outreach and agreed the commission should both assist and attend the event; Commissioner Jane Fried moved that the HRC assist with and attend the Pride event, a motion seconded by Commissioner Elizabeth Vitullo and approved unanimously.
The commission also noted the Pride proclamation will be read at the June 1 flag-raising. The meeting minutes record that members "made many edits to the Pride Month Proclamation (attached)." The commission did not report any dissent on the proclamation edits.
The commission adjourned at 7:34 p.m.
