Englewood council adopts appropriation change, renews health benefits contract and appoints interim city manager

Englewood City Council on May 12 approved several administrative measures in a single meeting, including a budget appropriation revision, renewal of the city's employee health coverage arrangement, and the appointment of an interim city manager.

Courtney Rietman moved to suspend the rules requiring three readings and to adopt Ordinance 26-05, which revises appropriations for the 2026 fiscal year; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Council also adopted Resolution 09-26 authorizing renewal of an agreement with the Ohio Benefits Cooperative to contract with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield for medical and prescription drug coverage for full-time employees. Later in the meeting the council unanimously adopted Resolution 10-26 appointing Della Stearns as interim city manager pending hire of a permanent replacement.

In other business, Interim City Manager Della Stearns reported that the city's second annual shred event served 113 cars and that the Planning Commission approved a conditional-use application for a proposed gas station on Salem Road. Stearns also announced the 49th Annual Community Garage Sales (May 28' 30, Section 4 south of I-70), a yard-waste and used-tire disposal event on May 30 at the compost facility at 335 E. Wenger Road, and that city offices will be closed for Memorial Day with a one-day trash delay. Councilmember Brad Rarick requested that Law Director Michael McNamee review the Spencer Landscaping contract concerning the Main Street Slope Stabilization project. Councilmember Courtney Rietman reminded attendees that the Englewood Market opens May 14 at Wagoner's Power Equipment and noted upcoming Englewood RISE events.
