Landowners urge commission to use existing corridors for ITC Nelson–Onida transmission project
Summary
Two landowners urged the Michigan PSC during public comment in case U-21471 to use existing transmission corridors for the proposed ITC Nelson–Onida line and to respect due-process and alternate-route requirements under state law.
During the meeting’s public-comment period, affected landowner Val Walide Brennan told commissioners the ITC Nelson–Onida project (case U-21471) threatens the family farm and that the proposed route ‘‘condemns 8 miles of land’’ rather than using an available, decades-old transmission corridor. Brennan urged the commission to require use of existing right-of-way where feasible to minimize environmental and social impacts.
Carol Sandborne also addressed the commission about the Nelson–Onida line and argued that Public Act 30 requires an alternate route and that the current process is not affording landowners their due-process protections. Sandborne asked the commission to consider routing that would avoid unnecessary curvature and reduce property impacts.
Neither public commenter requested a specific form of relief recorded on the meeting floor (the docket remains open for formal filings and comment). The commission closed the public-comment period and reminded members of the public they may continue to submit comments by email to the commissioners’ public mailbox.
