Michigan Public Service Commission approves package of consent orders and extensions

At its Nov. 21 meeting the Michigan Public Service Commission unanimously approved a slate of consent orders and deadline extensions across telecommunications and electric cases, including approvals in U-20962, U-21090, U-21338, and extensions for integrated resource plans and a workgroup tool.
The Michigan Public Service Commission on Nov. 21 approved a package of consent orders and motions covering telecommunications and electric matters, voting unanimously on each item.
Chair Dan Scripps called the meeting to order and commissioners first approved the meeting agenda and the Nov. 7 minutes by unanimous voice votes. Staff attorney Shannon Wau then introduced the consent agenda, saying it contained four communications matters and six electric matters that had been vetted by technical and legal staff and were ready for approval.
The commission approved an order in case U-20962 permitting Thumb Electric Cooperative, doing business as TechFiber, to expand its eligible telecommunications carrier designation. Commissioners also approved DTE Electric’s request for an extension to file its next appreciation case (case U-118150). The panel voted to extend the deadline for producing a spreadsheet-based or open-source benefit-cost analysis tool under workgroup case U-28N8; Commissioner Perk thanked staff for developing the tool and invited stakeholder participation in its development.
Other unanimous approvals included Consumers Energy’s power purchase agreement with Voyager Energy Storage LLC (U-21090); DTE Electric’s securitization charges for Dec. 2024–Nov. 2025 (U-21338); interconnection procedures and forms filed by Upper Michigan Energy Resources Corporation under case U-21479; the commission’s own-motion report filing requirements for the Upper Peninsula to comply with Public Act 235 of 2023 (U-21572); and motions granting filing extensions for integrated resource plans under MCL 460.6 for both Auerr Peninsula Power Company (U-21809) and Northern States Power Company (U-21814).
Each of those matters was presented by staff, put forward as a motion to approve the order, and carried by unanimous voice vote. No roll-call tallies with individual member votes were recorded in the transcript; approvals were announced as carried by unanimous voice vote.
The meeting concluded with routine announcements and a motion to adjourn, which carried unanimously.
