Board authorizes countywide drainage mapping and a ditch-spraying bid package; larger tree clearing to be studied

Ayres Associates presented a countywide drainage maintenance proposal on June 30 and the Dallas County Board of Supervisors approved work to digitize county-controlled drainage facilities and to prepare a bid package for a recurring ditch-spraying preventive maintenance program.
Tyler Bierman summarized the proposal: digitize and map every county-controlled drainage facility (estimated cost about $20,000) to create a public-facing, GIS-style inventory, then prepare a spraying bid package that would address undergrowth and small trees on open ditches on a roughly three-year cycle. Bierman said the mapping would also let the county identify areas where larger trees are encroaching on tile lines and where tree clearing may be required.
Board members supported the mapping and spraying work and directed staff to prepare the materials for bidding and to return with reports on specific zones where tree removal above tile lines may be needed. A motion authorizing Agri-Vie to develop drainage district facility mapping for Dallas County and to produce a spraying bid package was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote.
Supervisors discussed phasing: mapping and spraying were prioritized as near-term work while larger tree-clearing projects would be approached later, after landowner engagement and detailed mapping.
