Board recognizes staff with Eagle Excellence awards; a trustee announces resignation

The Ferndale School Board paused its business on Nov. 18 to publicly recognize several staff members with "Eagle Excellence" awards.
The superintendent read citations honoring Robert Dex, the district's maintenance supervisor, for facilities work; Brook Brimacomb for leadership as a ninth-grade English teacher and organizer of senior events at University High School; and Samantha Corum for engaging science instruction, among others. The honorees received public applause and were photographed with the board.
Later in the meeting a trustee announced their resignation effective at the end of the meeting, saying they were returning to school and could not currently give the seat the time it deserves. The resignation was framed as a personal decision to prioritize classroom work and family obligations and the trustee said the move was intended to allow someone with more available time to take the seat.
Board members used the points-of-pride portion of the agenda to highlight student-athlete and extracurricular successes, staff certifications (including a business-office certification noted during the meeting) and a Michigan Heart Safe School award for one of the district's sites.
The board adjourned at 8:51 p.m.
