Council approves community donations, events and a Wessler Engineering contract amendment
Summary
Morristown Town Council approved a $20,000 annual donation request and a $5,000 scholarship gift to Morristown Matters, authorized community events including an April 25 microchip and mobile vet clinic, accepted donation of 40 park benches from Shelby County Recycling District, and approved a Wessler Engineering Amendment No. 17 to exceed $25,000 in professional services.
Patrick Deak of Morristown Matters asked the council for a $20,000 annual donation to support local festivities. Council Member Larry Tracy moved to approve the annual donation and Council Member Ralph Henderson seconded; the motion passed 3-0.
Separately, Council Member Ralph Henderson moved and Council Member Larry Tracy seconded approval of a $5,000 donation to the Morristown Matters scholarship fund in memory of Marshal Henry Albrecht; that motion also passed 3-0. Morristown Matters announced a MicroChip event at the Fire Station community room on April 25, 2026 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.) and a fundraising 5K on May 5.
Jacob Barker of Wessler Engineering presented Amendment No. 17, which allows professional services spending to exceed $25,000 in 2026; Council Member Larry Tracy moved to approve the amendment and Council Member Ralph Henderson seconded. The council approved the contract amendment by a 3-0 vote.
The council also announced that Waste Management Free Dump Day coupons will be mailed to residents for use in May and that the Shelby County Recycling District will provide 40 benches for parks. Council Member Kristi Langkabel moved to approve a low-cost mobile veterinary clinic at the Fire Station for April 25; Council Member Larry Tracy seconded and the motion passed 3-0.
Marshal Brad Trittipo received a Certificate of Achievement recognizing 20 years of full-time service; no council vote was required for the presentation.
