Council OKs $421,895 wastewater-plant security contract and approves $279,412 dump truck purchase

The Andover City Council on June 30 authorized two capital purchases for public-works operations.
Director of Public Works Rick Lance described a contract with Pinnacle Fire and Automation for the wastewater treatment plant's integrated fire alarm, access control, intrusion and surveillance systems. Lance said the site is large, the work aligns with vendor platforms already in place, and vendor cooperation reduced costs by roughly $30,000. The council authorized the mayor to sign a contract not to exceed $421,895 for the systems.
On a separate item council approved the purchase of a tandem dump truck with snow plow and spreader available on state contract for $279,412. Staff said the vehicle is on hand, the pricing is favorable compared with waiting (which could add months and higher cost), and funds were budgeted from the street equipment reserve. Council members noted the purchase is funded from saved reserves and approved the motion on voice vote.
Both purchases carried on unanimous voice votes. Staff said the security work and the new vehicle are needed to support operations, storm-response capacity and construction activity associated with ongoing infrastructure projects.
