Chamber leader urges council to approve Lifespring Recovery zoning, stresses community integration

During the public forum on June 30, Lori Colum, president and CEO of the Andover Area Chamber of Commerce, told the council she supports the Lifespring Recovery zoning request scheduled for the July 14 meeting and asked the governing body to consider the organization's conduct and community ties.
Colum said Lifespring Recovery has joined the chamber, worked to build local relationships and approaches site selection and community partnership thoughtfully. She described Lifespring as a licensed inpatient health-care facility offering medically supervised detox and residential treatment for adults who meet clinical criteria and said it is not a correctional facility, methadone clinic, shelter or walk-in emergency drop-off site.
"Think of your neighbors, think of their children, think of the drug problem we have in our schools when you make this decision," Colum said, urging council members to weigh public-safety and community-resource concerns but to consider the organization's demonstrated professionalism and intentions.
Her remarks concluded the public-forum segment; no other public speakers took the podium that evening. Colum's comments were presented for the council to consider ahead of the July 14 zoning hearing.
