The Abbeville City Council on July 15 approved awards for two LCDBG-funded demolition contracts and a related budget adjustment to bring Phase 1 within funding limits. Staff reported the initial low bid for Phase 1 was $297,350; a concurrent change order to remove six structures and certain topsoil hauling reduces the contract by $123,250 to a new price of $174,100. The council approved the award subject to concurrence from the state office of community development.
For Phase 2, staff presented a $79,300 contract to Pelaran and Sons to demolish 11 structures that staff said contained no asbestos, and the council approved that award subject to state concurrence as well.
Todd (staff) said the bids were opened May 29 and that the Phase 1 change order was necessary to bring the project into budget. Council approved both motions by voice vote.
Staff said the state office must concur before work proceeds; the council’s approvals authorize the mayor to execute the contracts once concurrence is received.
