Museum award, summer events and festivals highlighted at parks commission meeting

Mary Beth Neville told the commission that the Canonsburg 'Village After Dark' event received a Tennessee Association of Museums commendation in the special event category and that the museum—reopened after five years of work—hosted a successful 50th-anniversary celebration. "It was a wonderful celebration...hot but wonderful," Neville said, adding organizers plan to run a similar event in October.
Lynn outlined major summer programming: Celebration Under the Stars on July 4 (free, with music, food trucks, live entertainment and a fireworks display set to music), two 'splash out' family events with Murphy'sboro Fire Rescue (July 9 and July 23), and ongoing movies under the stars; she also previewed fall events including a Hummingbird Festival (Sept. 5) and Greenway Art Festival (Sept. 19).
Commissioners praised the diversity of programming and encouraged residents to attend the events. No formal action was taken; staff said details are available on the parks department website.
