Commission approves reestablishing gift shop at St. Clair Senior Center

The Merboro Parks and Recreation Commission approved a plan to reestablish a gift shop at the St. Clair Senior Center after hearing a request from Mark Owens.
Owens told the commission St. Clair had operated a gift shop for more than 20 years before renovations removed it; recent senior inquiries prompted the proposal to resell items such as promotional T-shirts and small goods. "If approved we will start a survey just asking seniors what are some of the items they would like to see for resale and go from there," Owens said, adding staff plan to use a closet behind the front desk for inventory and a small display for sales.
Commissioners asked logistics questions about the location and storage; Owens said stock will be kept in a closet behind the front desk with a display area for sales. The motion to reestablish the gift shop was moved and seconded and received unanimous approval in roll call.
Owens also invited commissioners to the center's Fourth of July celebration and noted the center's garden mural and ongoing activities. Staff will proceed with the resident survey and set up of the sales area.
