Commission approves group rentals, hours and fees for Patterson Park splash pad

The Merboro Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to allow group rentals of the Patterson Park splash pad and adopt a new fee structure.
Dr. Jenkins presented the proposal to permit group rentals April 1 through Oct. 31, Thursdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and to require pavilion rental for all splash pad group bookings. "The proposed hours for renting the splash pad for groups would be 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday through Sunday," Dr. Jenkins said, and added that the group rental fee would be $75 for two hours.
The pavilion rental structure will remain in place and the staff outlined differentiated charges for residents and nonresidents: non-city residents would pay $150 for a full day and $90 for a half day, while city residents would receive discounted rates (a full day at $130 and $75 for a half day). Commissioners asked clarifying questions about logistics and staffing, and staff confirmed rental operations will align with the parks' pavilion rental season.
A motion to approve the operating hours and the rental-fee structure was moved, seconded and carried on a roll call vote. Commissioners recorded their votes as follows: Dr. Gloria Bonner (yes), Dr. Casey Brown (yes), Mr. Miller (yes), Mr. Montgomery (yes), Mr. Shacklet (yes) and Mr. Wright (yes). The motion passed unanimously.
The change will allow the parks department to market the splash pad for private group use during weekend morning hours and aims to pair splash-pad rentals with pavilion use to simplify staffing and oversight. Staff will implement the fee schedule and the required pavilion reservation process ahead of the next rental season.
