Demorest, Ga. — The Demorest City Council on Aug. 5 adopted an amendment to the city’s draft mobile-home and manufactured-home regulations that removes an allowance for vinyl skirting.
At a public hearing opened by City Attorney Thomas Mitchell, resident Zane Stewart asked about section 3(C) of the draft ordinance and suggested allowing vinyl skirting as an option. Mitchell clarified that, under the draft and current rules, mobile homes are prohibited everywhere in the city except within the designated Mobile Home Park. Council discussion followed on whether to permit skirting materials.
Councilman Jimmy Davis moved to strike the provision allowing vinyl skirting — described in the minutes as “strike vinyl is prohibited under section 6.(k) in the proposed ordinance.” Councilman Andrew Ferguson seconded the motion, which the council approved unanimously (4-0).
The action removes vinyl as a permitted skirting material in the draft ordinance; the council did not adopt the ordinance in final form at the meeting but implemented the specific amendment reported in the minutes.
The public notice for the hearing cited state law for public hearings on zoning and land-use matters (OCGA 36-81-5). The draft ordinance otherwise continues to restrict mobile homes to the city’s Mobile Home Park, per staff comments during the hearing.
The council’s next regular meeting will include any further ordinance steps or additional public-notice requirements if staff proposes a final adoption.
