Toms River students honored; unified sports program gets $7,500 from local foundation

Michaela Manzy (student representative, Toms River High School South) recapped concerts, spirit contests and athletic accomplishments across South’s teams.
Representatives of the district’s Unified Sports program thanked the Toms River Educational Foundation and downtown businesses for a $7,500 gift that will support unified flag football, unified kickball and other inclusive athletic activities. During the presentation a coach or program representative said, “Your support truly highlights the strength and compassion of our town,” and asked foundation representatives to come forward for a photo.
District staff recognized student-athletes and coaches during an awards segment introduced by Dave Carell, publicity coordinator at Toms River High School South, who praised athletes and introduced coaches and honorees. Coaches and program leaders congratulated players and noted state and county championship accomplishments.
The meeting’s business agenda followed the recognition segment; the board recessed to executive session earlier for personnel and legal matters and returned afterward for the public votes. No members of the public spoke during the agenda-limited public comment period.
