East Lansing board approves World Language student trip to Quebec and Montreal

The East Lansing Board of Education unanimously approved a World Language Department travel request for June 14–20, 2025, authorizing a student trip to Quebec City with an overnight in Montreal on the return leg.
Teacher Miss Christopoulos described the itinerary and logistics to the board, saying the language department favors bus travel to reduce airfare and hotel costs and that past trips have had strong student participation. "We take a bus there which is really... easier than flying," she said, adding that the trips have been affordably priced for students and that previous groups had high participation levels.
Christopoulos said the tour company offered $2,000 the program can use to support students, either as full scholarships or divided among several students who need financial assistance. "They said as long as it goes to students you can choose how you spend it," she told trustees.
Board members briefly discussed chaperone ratios and the educational value of language immersion. Trustee Chambers moved the motion, Trustee Lions seconded it, and the board approved the trip by unanimous voice vote.
The district will open registration following board approval and confirm chaperone numbers once sign-ups are complete.
