Board approves amended agenda and hires new staff effective Aug. 26

The East Lansing Board of Education unanimously approved an amended meeting agenda and a consent package that added and ratified several new staff hires effective Aug. 26, 2024.
Trustee Edel moved to approve the amended agenda and Trustee Chambers seconded; the board voted in favor. The amendment added two hires to the consent agenda: Angel Tuttle, a 1.0 FTE resource-room teacher (ASD focus) pending a Michigan teaching certificate at McDonald Middle School, and Patrick Reel, a 1.0 FTE school social worker (building to be determined). The board then approved the full consent agenda, which also listed additional hires including resource-room and elementary classroom teachers.
During the meeting two newly hired staff introduced themselves. Patrick Reel said, “hello my name is Patrick Reel … I will be school social work at McDonald Middle School,” and Angel Tuttle told the board she had been a paraeducator at the district and is completing a master’s program while stepping into the resource-teacher role. The board welcomed the new hires and noted the customary introductions for newly appointed employees.
The motion to approve the consent agenda carried unanimously. The board did not record individual roll-call votes in the minutes beyond the public statement that the motion “carries unanimously.”
The approved hires are part of the district’s staffing updates ahead of the new school year; the board’s next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 9, 2024.
