During the May 11 meeting the Ridgefield superintendent and staff highlighted three time‑sensitive items: the district referendum scheduled for the following day, a newly reported board resignation and the month‑end financial snapshot.
Superintendent Dr. Dilva reminded listeners that the referendum opens the next morning and urged community turnout in support of the board’s proposed budget, emphasizing the level of work behind the proposal. She also announced receipt of an email from Mr. Lipman indicating his resignation. "As Mr. Lipman is a sitting Democrat, the seat will be according to our town charter, the replacement will be a Democrat in town," she said, and said the board will coordinate with the town Democratic Town Committee to set a timeline (typically within 30 days).
The board then voted to accept the financial report for the period ending April 30, 2026. Finance Director Miss Brown reported an operating deficit of $282,756 as of April 30 but said anticipated revenue sources — including excess‑cost reimbursements, insurance contributions, RBA funding and athletic fees — are projected to offset the deficit and the district expects to finish the fiscal year with a modest surplus if current trends continue. Miss Brown told the board the second installment of excess‑cost reimbursement typically posts in late May.
The board approved the acceptance of the financial report unanimously. Members asked for additional detail on legal expenses and year‑end reconciliations; administration said staffing and timing will produce a more detailed reconciliation in September as audit work concludes.
